Database Engineer

About the Role 

You will own the data layer for all payment products—designing schemas, optimizing queries, ensuring reliability, and scaling infrastructure. Every transaction, settlement, and reconciliation depends on the systems you build. 

You'll work across product squads as the database expert. When products launch, you design the schema. When queries slow down, you diagnose and fix. When we scale, you architect the solution. 

Roles & Responsibilities 

1. Design and maintain database schemas for payments, settlements, merchants, subscriptions, and audit logs 
2. Optimize query performance—indexing strategies, query rewriting, execution plan analysis 
3. Implement and manage caching layers (Redis) for high-throughput transaction processing 
4. Set up data pipelines—CDC (Change Data Capture), event sourcing, real-time analytics feeds 
5. Ensure data reliability—replication, backup strategies, disaster recovery, point-in-time recovery 
6. Execute zero-downtime migrations and schema evolutions 
7. Support product teams with data modeling, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting 
8. Monitor database health, set up alerting, and respond to performance incidents 

Requirements 

1. 3-5 years database engineering with high-volume production systems 
2. Deep PostgreSQL expertise—query optimization, indexing, partitioning, replication, EXPLAIN ANALYZE 
3. Strong Redis experience for caching, rate limiting, and real-time data structures 
4. Experience with migrations, schema evolution, and zero-downtime deployments 
5. Understanding of ACID, transaction isolation levels, and distributed systems concepts 

Good to Have 

1. Fintech experience—ledgers, double-entry accounting, reconciliation 
2. Time-series databases (Timescale DB) or columnar stores (Click House) 
3. Kafka for CDC and event streaming pipelines
